Complain, Complain… and Upgrades!

Funny. Everyone who knows me, knows I’m a complainer. I like to complain. I should really stop complaining so much but whatever.

Anyway. I got the flu last week. I’m hardly EVER sick so it wasn’t that bad really. I usually recover from illness quickly, I’m kinda healthy. In some ways. However, I had to be in Vegas today for work. I’m attending the International Builders Show this week and have to be on the convention floor.

The acronym for that is IBS. Which is just HILARIOUS to me since I have IBS. Or IBD, really. Sorry, tangent.

So today I didn’t feel like death, which was good because a four hour drive is a really long drive feeling like crap. Even with a break at the outlet mall. 🙂

By the time I get to the hotel, I’m not exhausted but I’m tired. I just want to lay down, veg, find something good on the TV. Get rested up for Monday when I have to set up the booth and get REALLY rested for Tuesday through Thursday when I have to be on my feet all day.

When I signed in, I was really pleasant to the front desk because you know they are the ones getting you the good rooms. She was nicely telling me she was giving me a corner room because it was a ‘quiet’ room. Awesome. We talked about Internet ($13 a day, ugh – but I need it), and an upgrade to a Grand Room which includes Internet and is just $30 more. Well, the room is paid by my company… I don’t really want to waste any money on this adventure so, no thanks. I’ll take the Internet and try to argue it as a valid expense later if I use it every day but I don’t want to pay the upgrade.

I get to the room and immediately unpack. I keep thinking, I should turn on the TV right now so I can find something good but unpacking was ALMOST done. Then, I needed ice for all the food I brought (this room doesn’t have a refrigerator but the Grand room does…) so I walked down to get ice. Then I really wanted a shower. I hate traveling clothes. I want them off! Oh, the shower head was a little over five feet high. So there were good and bad parts to this room.

So I do all that, thinking to myself, good job. Just get it all done and then you can just relax. I talk to the kids and hubby. Telling them about my odd little room. It’s not a usual Vegas hotel room that I stay at but it’s not the worst thing ever. This weird smell was there when I came in the room though. The shower head. I don’t know. It’s fine though.

Click the ‘on’ button to the TV. Nope. Ugh. Call and ask for advice. It could be me. It usually is, hardware things don’t really like me but she sends someone up. I wait 15 minutes, which is not really that bad, and the guy is nice. The plug TO the TV wasn’t lodged in. I didn’t even want to mess with it so was happy he was there. Happy that the TV was working and I didn’t have to move!

As he was leaving, I asked him if he smelled that smell and what he thought it was. He looked at me and said, oh yes, that is an awful smell, it smells like sewage. I told him I thought it was that too but I checked out the bathroom when I came in and everything was fine.

He asked me if I wanted him to send up the repair guy and I said sure, why not.

At this point, I was kicking myself for unpacking. If I was feeling better, I would be the first to complain on that phone, wanting it fixed, wanting to make sure I wasn’t wasting any time on this room if I wasn’t going to stay here.

The repair guy got here and he was hysterical. Freaking out over the awful smell, turning on the faucet, turning on the shower, and basically just rushing out of the room and telling me he was going straight down to talk to the Manager.

The Manager called and was so apologetic and told me she was upgrading me to the Grand room for no charge for my inconvenience. I asked if that was the room that had Internet and she said no, but if I connected under my name she would comp me for one connection as well.

Ha! So it’s all worked out nicely. Now I’m just sitting here waiting for them to come back up with my keys to the new room.

Really, I’m just grateful I feel okay right now. I’m tired. I’m coughy and hacky. But I feel so much better than Thursday and I’m just happy to be upgraded. Who doesn’t like to be upgraded?

Since I’m recovering, it’s not like I had any plans tonight! So it all works out.

As long as they get their butts up here quick-like. Cause I typed out this whole thing and am posting it now and I’m STILL waiting for them. ? See? Complain, complain, complain!

Complain on, sista! Thou shalt not tolerate funky odors in strange hotel rooms. That should be a golden rule. Feel better!!

Great stuff. You should write a book!

And yes, everyone loves an upgrade.
