A Visit to RomCom in Denver, CO

Last weekend was a super late birthday present from the husband to me. A trip to Denver for the first RomCon! What’s RomCon, you ask? Why just the new Romantic Convention for readers to meet all their A list authors! I was super excited to find out that Julia Quinn, Nalini Singh, Julie James, Susan Mallery, Elizabeth Boyle, Carly Phillips, Lori Foster, Christine Feehan (to just name a FEW) were going to be there.  I was in fan girl heaven.

We arrived on Friday and with the time change, I wasn’t able to help put the kids to bed (heard it was a little difficult though… hehe) and drove over to the convention center to go to a super special Blogger party. Since I have this fancy thing and a twitter account that I use regularly, I was invited and was it awesome! There was a huge bag of books waiting for me at my seat and I joined a big table full of crazy book lovers just like me.  Perfect!

The best part was that Julia Quinn was there and I got a fresh copy of one of her older books (mine are all destroyed) and I was able to have her sign her latest book, 10 Things I Love About You, right then.  Ahhh… heaven!

One of the best parts was meeting all these new people that loved romance novels just as much as I do. I’m usually pretty shy at these things but the whole weekend I had no problems sitting down next to other women and chatting with them about my favorite authors and getting some great recommendations back.

The next morning I had a ticket to go to an ‘intimate chat’ with Carly Phillips. I was introduced to Carly a few years back when one of her books was recommended by Kelly Ripa for her book club and it immediately shot to #1 of the Best Seller list. I was hooked. It was great to be in a small room with about 15 other people and be able to talk to her about her ideas, new books, and how she was published.

After that I speed dated a few authors, sat in on the Suspence Mix and Mingle which was awesome, walked through the book fair and met all the authors. There was a quiet period after lunch and I walked in to the restaurant at the hotel intending to eat something and read a little of my latest Nora Roberts when a woman whom I had met earlier flagged me down to have lunch with her and two other people. We had such a nice time at lunch discussing (again) all of our favorite books! It was so nice to be around people… JUST LIKE ME! haha.

Anyway, after lunch was another session where I had a special ticket to the Paranomal Author tea. Again, more free books and we got to walk around getting all the different authors to sign a little scavenger hunt deal. It wasn’t the best session but it was cool because I got to fan girl Nalini Singh (see pic below) and she showed me the cover art of her next Archangel book coming out next year. Christine Feenhan was there and she has written SO many books which are mostly fabulous and I also got a new Jeannine Frost and CL Wilson whom I’m told I have to read.

The last session of the day was Blog, Oh Blogger hosted by Sue Grimshaw of Borders True Romance fame, Sarah from Smart Bitches, Jane from Dear Author, and eek who was there? I love her books but I’m blanking on the name.  Anyway, I LOVE reading Smart Bitches, Trashy Books and Dear Author because they tell it like it is. They give scathing reviews on books when it’s needed and heaps of praise when it’s much deserved. Plus all sorts of fun eye candy and hysterical links and info. So grabbing a picture with them was super fun.

At dinner that night, I got to sit at…. JULIA QUINN’S table! Purely by accident… but she is so incredibly friendly and sweet. Really, everyone there was. It was just such a great experience throughout the whole show. Here is what I ended up with after the show… Over 31 books, great recommendations, and lots of new friends.

Crazy books

Now wait until you hear how the REST of the trip went because the kiddos came with us!
