I’m impressionable.
I’m a trend-seeker.
I’m an adopter, a consumer, a follower…
The word “influencer” is known but there is not really a word for the person who is influenced. I’m trying a few of those out for size.
I don’t really like any of them. Although, I am impressionable.
Swati invited me to a book signing of Dr Amy Shaw, Hormone Havoc. I still need to read it. She was on Mel Robbins. She says the kind of things that I like to hear. I was super impressed.
I also adore Swati and totally trust her judgement.
But I had to laugh. I was sitting in the 2nd row. I didn’t really know anyone else there. I knew 2 or 3 of the other women. I met Swati at our private school the kids attended, P3 through 5th grade. I briefly chatted with a few of them but I think their kids were different years than mine. But I’m looking around at all the high-end purses, the labels on their work-out gear. These are all highly accomplished women (well, I assume they are) who are spending $50 to attend this class, support Swati, and support a member of their community.
And I start looking at shoes.
I am DESPERATE for a good pair of running/hiking shoes. I’m about to go on this grad trip with a lot of hiking. My 6 pairs of Zee Alexis that I wear because they SLIP ON (I’m so lazy efficient!) will just not cut it.
Swati is sitting in front of me. I peer down at her shoes.
What is that logo? It’s not Nike.
I look at the women on either side of me.
Same damn logo.
I think I type into my phone a description of the logo and then have my aha moment.
On Cloud.
High end, true luxury fashion sneakers. (Is what AI tells me about them.)
I end up at the Spectrum later after our Easter lunch, or maybe it was the next day, I can’t remember. I’m in Nordstroms looking for a white shirt to wear to an upcoming conference, and also things to add to my birthday list! I walk back downstairs after trying on a few things, buying a few things, and also adding some to my list…
But I wander into the shoe department. Is On Cloud here? It is.
So is Nike, Hoka, New Balance… etc.
Hmm. Okay, let’s try this. I grab three different brands… I skip Hoka because I bought them a few years back and promptly gave them to Sam. They bugged the crap out of the top of my foot.
And it was either Nike or New Balance that rubbed against my ankle a few years back.
I try on 3. I go back and forth between two. I can’t remember the other one.
But I am now the proud owner of a beautiful pair of black On Cloud shoes.
And you know what? Those damn shoes ARE like walking on a cloud! I love them!
I will actually take the time to go get thicker socks, put on these damn shoes, and take the time to tie the shoelaces properly because walking jogging fast walking in these is like a dream.
I’m wondering if I need a separate pair of hiking shoes but I think these will be good enough.
But I have to congratulate myself for being impressionable. For being a TREND SEEKER.
I don’t hate it.
Now, I just need to crack open this amazing book!
