Review: And the Crowd Went Wild by SEP

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is a comfort read for me.

“Nobody’s Baby But Mine” is a book I have recommended to SO many people and is one of the quotes on my GoodReads page is from it and I still giggle over.

“I married a damned cereal killer” – Best petty revenge ever!

This Heart of Mine made me cry and was SO heart-breaking and beautiful.

I can go on and on.

That said, “And the Crowd Went Wild” started off a little slow for me! I was comparing it to some of her older books. It almost felt like she was rinsing and repeating.

Football star having a crisis. Famous star having a meltdown. They meet in some backwater town with a bunch of silly characters.

That said, she rinses and repeats because it works.

Dancy rescuing Watch is adorable and tugs on your heartstrings.

Her meeting with Erin was alarming, heart-breaking, and SO real. And you root for the both of them to be friends.

Her crisis feels real and you start to ache for her.

“What would your life look like if you felt a little compassion for the kid you were instead of villainizing her?”

“You seem to make a habit of cutting other people more slack than you’re willing to give yourself.”

To be honest, I’ve completely forgotten the story of Clint’s sister. I barely remember Brett and Rory’s story (I rated it 4 stars) but I appreciate the tie-ins, even if they are hitting.

Why Dancy was actually able to find Clint’s address and feel like that was the person she would run to while completely drunk – well, whatever. We can ignore that. Here we are. But watching their dance was slow and touching.

“She was having serious anxiety issues. In a little over a week, Clint had become the friend she needed, the person who saw her for exactly who she was and still managed to care about her.”

This was classic SEP and made me smile.

Her ex-husband was a rat. I sort of saw what was coming but not really. I thought it was weird and followed the same path as Dancy did, and was totally yelling at her to get a contract signed. Damn, he was cold.

Her revenge was perfect though. SEP does revenge so well. 5 stars to petty revenge!

But the ending is what shined. Oh, that was heartfelt. It was perfect. I wish I could see Dancy’s amazing one-woman show. These are quotes from it and I could feel the audience tearing up because I was too.

“Since when did depression get a bad name? You deserve this depression. Finally, something you’re really good at.”

“But then maybe, if you’re very lucky, you hear a piece of music that speaks to you, or you see a perfect sunset”

“You finally understand that you are . . . useful. You have a place. A purpose.”

Sigh. So good.

If you love SEP, then you will love this book. Perfect comfort read for me! 5 stars!
