Rafting the River in Page, AZ

After we finished touring the Grand Canyon (if you missed it, that post is here) we woke up, packed up, and headed out towards Page, Arizona for our rafting trip at 1PM. The road followed the end (beginning??) of the Grand Canyon and we came up to the Watchtower so of course, we had to stop!

It was several stories tall and since it was early in the morning I didn’t bother reading any of the signs about the petroglyphs or pictures on the wall but they were very nice. I’m a really great tour guide, huh?

The views were amazing and we could see the Colorado River again, winding it’s way down the canyon.

We hopped back in the car and drove a few hours and stopped for gas and to get a few things at Walmart. Suddenly, we had a panic attack because we didn’t know if Page was on Daylight Savings Time or not. So we called and luckily we still had 45 minutes. But it went very fast and we were almost late!

Luckily we arrived in time, snagged our sun screen (I ran back for it), and packed our lunches for our bus ride to the dam. The bus ride was SO COOL. It took about 12-15 minutes but it went through two whole miles of a covered tunnel. Yes, a huge long tunnel completely covered. If you get scared of riding in the dark, just be aware. Everyone starts talking and squealing and leaning to the side to look out the window. It was pretty cool.

By the time you get out of the tunnel, you are at the bottom underneath the bridge above and at the bottom of the Glen Canyon Dam.

We then hopped on our raft through the Colorado River Discovery rafting company. It was pretty fun. Our guide was very sweet. She was new and didn’t know too much but it was a great trip. She was 100% Navajo and introduced herself in her language.

We then started the trip! Absolutely beautiful. We were lucky she brought bandanas so we dipped them in the water constantly and put them around our neck to cool off. We saw a lot of awesome birds flying around too.

We saw a little waterfall and she took us in closer to see it and fill up our water bottles. The water was delicious!

Everyone got a chance to fill their bottles.

There was also a ‘lucky’ rock for people going through Vegas. She swore it brought good luck so we all kissed it, just in case!

The water was a chilly 47 degrees. The kids wanted to go swimming. I told them no but…

They insisted!

 Ha 🙂

We also saw some Big Horned Sheep! Can you see them below? No? Oh well. They are there, promise. Right in the middle.

I recommend this trip, it was nice. It definitely depends on your guide, so hopefully you get a good one. We got home around five as they gunned the boat back home, with the wind pushing against us. Some poor people had their motor break on their boat and two boats when back for THEM but it wasn’t us… Not sure what happened to them but they said they were fine.

We stopped and got Sonic Burger (for everyone else) and headed back on the road to Zion! Next stop, Ponderosa Ranch. Read the next post…
