Book Review: Unravel Me by Christie Ridgway

by Kristi on December 23, 2008

Well, I finally finished Unravel me. It took me almost a week which I feel is a record for me. My slowest record! Since I usually read books in a few hours, not days. LOL

I’m a bit sad that my first review is a not so great one. Well, I guess I talked a BUNCH about Harry Potter on this blog… LOVE that series!!! Anyway, this was not one of my favorites. I’m not sure why. I generally love reading light-hearted romance novels, it’s a good way to just zone out for me and I just enjoy reading them.  But as I said, I just couldn’t connect with this one. I do like some of Christie’s other books such as “Must Love Mistletoe” and “Not Another New Years” but those books seemed to have more of a plot, some military/secret service guys thrown in there, etc.

Unravel Me had a knitting theme and I simply didn’t connect with the lead, Juliet.  She is a widow and there was nothing more to the story then her finding her sisters and just chatting up the ‘hero’ guy. This book is one of three, and the other two sisters seemed a bit more likable. I will probably end up buying the next book, Dirty Sexy Money, out in June.  It seemed to have more of a plot where the leading lady, Cassandra, is trying to save her neighbor who is in a deep depression from when his wife and child died a few years ago.

So while Christie Ridgway is a wonderful writer and has some very engaging books, Unravel Me just didn’t keep me tied in! (hardy har har…) 🙂

I am now halfway through Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton though. While she is a little racey (ok, a lot) she is always entertaining and suspenseful with her paranormal/faerie Meredith Gentry series.
