Funny Sam Moment

by Kristi on July 28, 2007

Imagine a bird flapping it’s wings frantically and trying to get off the ground. That is Sam when she is signalling that she is ‘all done’ with her dinner. I keep thinking her high chair is going to fly away.

Of course we know she’s not REALLY all done.

“Sam, do you want anything else?”

Shakes head.

“Sam, are you sure you don’t want anything else?”

Shakes head. Bird flight starts again.

“Ok, then – All done!”

Pause. “Fruit, fruit!!!!!” (Imagine saying ‘fruit’ with your mouth closed. Go on, try it. This is what Sam sounds like – Exactly.)

“Oh, ok – so, YES, you want fffffffruit!” We nod our head very emphatically.

Shakes head.

“Alright then – all done! No fruit tonight!” We shake our heads.

Ok, ok – you can imagine this scene right? Wails of torchure, wants her fruit, etc. etc. We try this every night it seems. Trying to emphasize the word fruit, and the word YES and nodding our head. It’s kind funny. I know this happens in every toddler household (well, I think it happens?) but it really is silly!

So we were sitting in the living room playing after bottle, and Sam was sitting on top of her table. We were playing with matchbox cars and playdoh, I think. Weird combo, I know. J was sitting a few feet away too. Sam was starting to get a little tired and cranky. It was almost 8pm so we knew the reason why!

“Sam, you want a bath?”

Bath sign! Big smiles! (Which is actually a modified version, again, it’s a crackup.)

“Yea! Do you want some bubbles in the bath?”

Shakes head.

“No bubbles!?”

“Gah!”

“No bubbles for Sam then.”

“GAH!!!!!!!!”

“Oh, ok, so you DO want BBBBBBBBBubbles!”

Shakes head.

I’ll spare you more renditions. Ok, maybe I won’t. But bear with me.

It took about three more times of this and when I was saying you DO want bubbles, I was nodding my head. I then tried to help HER nod her head. She just wasn’t getting it for a few minutes.

But then a breakthrough. “Sam, do you want bubbles in your bath?”

She looked at me and then did the funniest head nod I have ever seen. Justin and I erupted into shouts and claps and she was so pleased with herself!! She proceded to nod her way upstairs. hehe – I really hope YES is not the new NO. We will keep working on it. 🙂
