One thing

My thoughts are racing so I’m setting a 10m timer and choosing a prompt!

What’s one thing that made me smile today?

I think I’ll list out a few…

I was working out on the elliptical when G texted me for my Peloton login. We were on vaca the day before and I was talking about the different workouts I had done that morning and he seemed interested. So he wanted to use them! I gave him my logins (again!) and I assumed he was doing something up in his room.

But he ended up walking into the gym with me – and it was super early too! I think he felt a LITTLE uncomfortable having me essentially “watch him” as he worked out but we got to lightly chat as he did a super hard upper-body workout and I did my elliptical. I lost out on some of my workout time for weights but it made me smile for him to be getting a good workout in.

He’s been asking some really surprising health questions and we are getting ready to see a few specialists for him. All of that has been slightly… shocking? Interesting? But being able to hang out with him for 10 minutes in the morning definitely made me smile.

2nd thing… a friend just had her wedding and she texted me and another gal with updates. I demanded to see wedding dances and photos! And before I knew it, there were 50+ messages in WhatsAp with all sorts of hilarious chat. It’s always nice to have that back and forth.

The other gal was asking the FUNNIEST questions… I had to go back and read it just now.

“Was your wedding full of gossip? Did you have fun? Did you cry? Have you noticed any changes in your relationship with {hubby} since then?”

Ha! I was dying. Those are the best questions. And she answered them and the conversation went in a hilarious direction.

Plus it’s always nice to see wedding photos. Hear how it went. This wedding was a year in the making and it was nice to hear the payoff.

3rd thing… hmm. I did smile when my baby texted me and asked me if I had time to talk. We’ve been lightly chatting 5-10 minutes almost every day while she is at college. I was happy to hear from her and then… slightly sad because she said when we texted her a photo of us kayaking 20 minutes away from her, she felt so sad and she cried because she missed us.

Oh, my heart. I felt so bad. I didn’t think she would be so sad since she was fully booked doing sorority recruitment. But she was having a moment and I’m glad she told me.

And ultimately, talking to her made me smile, even if she was exhausted, unhappy, and overwhelmed with her current life. I’m glad I got to hear from her directly.

And now dinner is ready…
