5th floor, looking east, from UCI Hospital.
The fireworks started early. I could hear the bursts when I came back at 6pm. The sun went down at 8:05 and by 8:15 you could hear the sounds and Sam said she could see them around 8:20 which is when I put up the blinds to see more clearly.
This was taken at 8:30pm
The entire horizon sparkling with lights. The booms sounding every second.
They went on until 9:30pm or so. This was at 9pm.
It was so smokey after 9pm but it was peaceful to sit in the darkened hospital room, sitting on my window bench/bed, and gazing out at the sparklers. Both occupants of the room were sound asleep. Acute surgery care is no joke.
I wouldn’t be me without overthinking where I was the last few years – and scouring through this old blog.
2006 – Big Bear
2007 – Peralta
2008 – Peralta with G being 4 months old
2010 and 2011 – who knows but I had started working again so that was making me laugh.
Last year we were in the South of France. I bought my gorgeous ring last year on the 4th of July.
The year before I was hanging out in San Clemente.
Some of my old posts made me laugh because it’s a war between me really wanting to have some fun, do all the things, and also be snuggled in my bed and sleeping. Some things never change.
And now I’ve been singing “Oh, say can you see” to myself for hours.
When I think of 4th of July next year, it makes me tired. Maybe I should plan to be out of town.
