Election Guide by Me

So, I wanted to let you know which Props you should be voting for.

Just kidding 🙂 You can decide that for yourself! But a friend gave me this awesome Election Guide that tells you how all the different Republicans and Democrats are voting for the California Props.

2012 Anaheim Voter Guide-Props

It’s a nice little cheat guide that I really appreciated reading over. Carrie Nocella, who works with Government Relations over at Disneyland, send it to me.

Beyond the race for President… which is very important to me… a lot of these Props are important as well! I think I’m still deciding on all of them and will probably ‘discuss’ with my husband a bit more.

Prop 30 – I will be voting YES on this. Our schools are a mess. So many friends of mine are teachers and getting their jobs cut. I want to see more GREAT things happen for our schools and I don’t mind paying more sales tax OR asking people who earn over $250k to pay a little bit more too.

Prop 31 – Not sure…

Prop 32 – Not sure… Probably Yes. I don’t really want unions to leverage all their money together any more than they already do.

Prop 33 – Probably no – This prop is funded by George Joseph who is the chairman of Mercury Insurance and it will probably cost new drivers MORE insurance as they start driving.

Prop 34 – No for me. It will probably pass though. California hasn’t killed anyone in… well, a really long time right? However I agree with the death penalty, I don’t want to repeal it.

Prop 35 – More penalties for human traffickers. Awesome. Yes!

Prop 36 – Possibly Yes… However, if someone is getting 3 strikes for smaller punishments and getting 25 to life, GRRR why can’t they learn? Stop freaking breaking the law. So I’m a little torn on this one. 🙂

Prop 37 – YES!! Label your food! See what you are eating! Some of the detractors of this law feel that there is a lot of redundancy and cost to labeling all the food. Food suppliers will have to package food DIFFERENTLY for California only, so that might put a burden on smaller businesses. Plus, apparently attorneys can walk into any company and inquire/file lawsuits without any proof. So I’m not sure if this one will actually pass… but honestly, this would be such a GREAT step forward in getting exposure for seeing what you truly are eating in processed foods. I love it.

Prop 38 – NO – It’s distracting from Prop 30 and all groups oppose it right now.

Prop 39 – Yes. Clean energy with income tax and closing a loophole. Awesome.

Prop 40 – Yes – Everyone agrees with this one.

Congressional

For Yorba Linda specifically… We got shuffled in the redistricting last election so Gary Miller is no longer on my ballet. Which I am GLAD for because even though I’m registered as a Republican, my preferences have been swinging Democrat and his initiatives have been pissing me off. I really like what Jay Chen has to say. However the last time I looked, he was about 18% favored to win. I think I will vote for him but with Ed Royce (who has been representing his old district for years and years) running, I don’t think he will have a chance. Luckily, I’ve been reading up on Ed Royce and I don’t think he will be that bad 🙂 I actually agree with a lot of his statements.

Local City Council

I need to read up more on what’s going on with Yorba Linda. I always hear about the fights and squabbles on some of the local blogs. I think a few of them are up for re-election. I can’t remember how many we get to vote for. I really like Gene Hernandez as he was a former Police Chief. Mark Schwing and Nancy Rikel were/are members and up for re-election as well (I think). They voted for the change in police contracts that pissed off a lot of people last year… however, it saved us money and I haven’t noticed any problems with the switch-over. I have also heard from two friends that they always received quick response from the OC Sherifs rather than the Brea Police. I do need to read up on them a bit more though.

Anyway, click on the link above to the Voter Guide. I like how it tells me how each group is voting. Very clean and streamlined. 🙂

And please VOTE tomorrow. Vote vote vote! It is your RIGHT to vote that others die for. I can’t stress enough. Even if you think ‘your vote won’t count’ in the Presidential race, it’s still important to vote for these props and take a stand for what your community is doing.

I’m thankful for lots of friends who can reasonably discuss politics without resorting to name calling.
