Power Shakes

by Kristi on March 4, 2007

After gorging myself on so much chocolate in February last Monday I decided it needed to stop. When I was in middle school the parents had these BodyWise power shakes that they would make everyday and I used to have them too. They were so tasty! I always had the chocolate powder, milk, banana, and ice and it was like a chocolate milkshake. YUM.

So I decided to try having shakes in the morning again. I went to the store and got the vanilla SlimFast powder, frozen strawberries, and bananas. The first day I put apple juice in and also a bunch of ice. The ice really makes it frothy and actually makes *more* shake than just a cup but I like it that way. 🙂

I was talking to Krysta about the shakes and she decided to go and get them too as it’s a really good thing to have, especially as she has a lot of things she can’t eat lately. She made her first shake with non-fat milk, a LOT of frozen strawberries (about 8), and half a banana. She didn’t put ice in because the strawberries were frozen. She said it was very tasty. The day after that she made the shake with just water instead of milk.

I tried the shake with just water and because of the big scoop of vanilla powder, it tastes really great! I didn’t notice any change from the apple juice that I had put in before.

If you are looking to have a filling, nutritious, and low calorie breakfast meal, try a shake in the morning!

I’ve had to train Sam with the blender though…. The first day she screamed and screamed and screamed, even though I warned her that I was turning it on, and basically hated the whole thing. The second day she freaked out when I put the blender together and ran around the corner but then wanted me to pick her up when I told her it was going on. The third day she was pretty cool about it. So hopefully I haven’t harmed my child with the freakish blender! haha – I think she was cool about it because she knows she gets the other half of the banana and a few spoonfuls of the shake. She REALLY likes banana (and screams when it’s all gone – another fun story). We can’t give her that much banana because of her pooping problems though, if we do we have to give her more medicine. Blah.

Time to go make a shake! Actually, I think I will skip this morning (and yesterday I did too) because J is sleeping upstairs.
