Ramble On…

by Kristi on January 18, 2007

There are so many things to ramble on about yet I just haven’t had the time. I’ve been thinking about all these things that I could write about but when I get on the computer I just end up doing OTHER stuff.

But I’m sure you will be thrilled to hear we have a TODDLER in the house now!!

Yesterday was the first day that I could say she ‘walked’. She was doing more walking than crawling yesterday and now, in most cases, she will try walking before crawling. Sometimes she doesn’t get very far and then will crawl. Other times she will crawl back to whatever ledge she was hanging off of, get back up, and try walking again. Her favorite game is for me to sit in the middle of the playroom and she is at the couch. She will look at me, and I will give her this ‘look’, like “Oh no, don’t come over HERE!!” and she will walk her zombie walk with a laugh and then I will grab her and tickle her and then set her back on her way to the couch. Then we do it all over.

She will walk quite a ways just holding on to my hand though. If she’s not holding on to my hand she can get about 20 steps, maybe longer, before falling. Many parents seem to complain about toting their kid around during the time they are leaning to walk. Luckily I’ve got a petite little girl and she fits perfect on my hip (there is a lot of room for her on those things!) so I don’t mind (much) carrying her around.

Walking though, wow, we are going to slow down quite a bit. We went into the office today and I put her down at the elevator and walked with her to Papa’s office. Holy cow, it took a good 10 minutes to get there! haha – She looked so happy though, toddling around with me tugging her in the direction I want her to go. Luckily she is so easygoing (knock on wood) that I just have give a little tug and she goes where I want her to go. (I really shouldn’t say that, huh?) So I’m envisioning some slowing down if she is going to be insisting on walking. Oh well, I like going slow!

Today, I dressed her in her Laker outfit for the game tonight. We aren’t going but the game is on (as it is every other day for the next million years, sheesh, but anyway). We went on some errands and got three comments about how cute ‘he’ is. *sigh* Now, I realize she is in a SPORTS outfit so I wasn’t too offended. These little kids need signs. How many cute little boys with awesome curly hair have been called girls? I know my brother Scott was called a girl SO many times because of his cute little blonde curls that his Mom wouldn’t cut for, like, EVER. He turned out ok though. 🙂

I wish Sam had curls. I mean, she has RED hair, which is completely crazy. Maybe it came from my great-great Grandma, i don’t know, but it’s still RED. And then she has BLUE eyes. Now there was a 25% chance that she would get those (my Dad and Justin’s Mom have blue eyes) but still… Red hair and blue eyes! It’s wild! It would be awesome for her to have curls though since my hair is straight as a stick. Ahh well. That’s what curling irons are for, I suppose. Or perms. Remember perms?

We still get all the same hair comments though. I hadn’t gone out of the house for awhile and yesterday we had such a nice day. I went to the Tustin Marketplace with Sam to get her some shoes and some baby proofing stuff. We went out to lunch and had such a great time. She sat her her high chair and ate her food and waved at everyone who walked by. They all walked past and smiled at her. Not one comment on her hair! I was starting to be a little offended. Not a day would go past where we didn’t get “Is that RED hair??” comments and now no one wanted to compliment my child?

One lady stopped and asked how old she was. I answered (13 months, where did the time go?!) and she smiled at me sympathetically and said, ‘Oh that is SUCH a hard age, I’m sorry’. Which went into a nice conversation of how lucky I am, and how wonderful Sam is, and I made her completely jealous. (Hopefully that won’t come back to haunt me later!) She then went on to tell me that she won’t have another one because her first one was so difficult. Yikes.

But have no fear, we went to BabiesRUs and a nice Grandmotherly lady came up to us in the checkout line and proceeded to coo and sigh over Sam’s beautiful red hair. heehee – Sam is so sweet about it as she smiles at the people and then waves bye bye.

Now, if she would just stop waking up at 4am…

Well, we can’t have everything we want, now can we?
