Letter of Commendation

by Kristi on December 1, 2006

I have two cousins that serve our Country.

One is my cousin Kyle on my Mom’s side of the family. He’s in the Marines, I believe, and stationed off in San Diego. Since he is so close we get to see him for some family gatherings. 🙂 He’s training to do that thing where they jump out of helicopters and into the water to save people. I forget what it is called. I’m so proud of him though!

My other cousin, Drew, is in the Air Force. He had to pass these crazy tests, which he did because he is super smart. He is a LoadMaster and flies around in planes and always touching down in the hot spot areas. He’s been to Iraq, Afghanistan, and hundreds of other little places, I’m not sure. I know he gets to stay in SUPER nice hotels because he flies with all the high rankings Air Force people and since he is part of the crew he gets to visit awesome places.

Anyway, Drew has been in the force for two years, maybe? His Mom just sent along an email from him with a PDF file of a letter. The letter was from General Casey, Commander of the US Army addressed to General McNabb, Commander of Air Mobility Command… and it commended the entire flight crew of the C-17 aircraft who flew the aircraft from Baghdad to Warsaw.

It listed my cousin by name (along with the rest of the crew) and basically said they kicked butt and provided a stellar flight and helped participate in historical national security event in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Here is the link to the PDF file. How awesome is that? My cousin is SrA Drew A. Shapiro, Loadmasters, 8th AS, 62 A W

Go Drew & Kyle!! Thank you for serving our country. 🙂 I’m so proud of you.
