Martial Arts in Yorba Linda: World Martial Arts Center

by Kristi on November 2, 2012

Do you see this face? This is one of my favorite faces. It’s made better by the HUGE grin on his face because he is doing Taekwondo.

We finally signed him up! Hubby found a Yorba Linda Martial Arts Center near our house. We had actually been to another popular place with Sam a few times. She liked it but since they had the tendency to play dodgeball and other games, the husband was looking for smaller class sizes and more emphasis on the martial arts aspect.

When he called up to look for availability he was informed that they would have to evaluate Griffin before letting him come in. Cool. Sounds… interesting. When they came back, husband was RAVING about this place. Apparently Master Kim was amazing. Very down to earth with GG and related to him very well. He had three helpers with him and GG was the only guy being evaluated. They all surrounded him during the test and helped him out and encouraged him.

When they were done, Master Kim started talking to the husband and he just sold the heck out of him.

First, he told GG that if he wanted to start Taekwondo, he needed to be sure he was helping appropriately around the house. They discussed it for a bit and decided that GG would need to 1) close his door and turn off his light when he left the room and 2) put his juice back in the fridge when he was done with it. IF he did those things for a full week, he could earn his white belt and his gi.

Along with that, he required a $60 donation to the local Children’s Hospital instead of a registration fee. I forget the reasoning now behind the whole thing but suffice to say that the husband was in love with this place.

I went to the first class (and snapped this photo above) and I was very impressed by Master Kim. He was always smiling, he related well with the kids, and he ran a great class!

They are looking for physical, mental, and emotional change. Not just a regular martial arts class. This guy is seriously awesome.

Just as you have made a commitment to better yourself through the Way of the Hand and Foot (Taekwondo), we will commit and dedicate ourselves to helping you reach your goals and expectations. Just as we enjoy watching a person increase their skill level in martial arts, we also enjoy watching that person’s personality grow as well.

So we are two months into things and it’s going awesome. GG tested for his yellow belt over the weekend when I was gone and he PASSED! His belt ceremony is tomorrow. So stay tuned for some cute video 🙂

PS. I am thankful for my amazing little man who is so full of energy and excitement.
