There is Something in the Air…

Sam sleeps wonderfully here in Big Bear. I don’t know what it is? She has always slept really great here. Maybe it’s her pack ‘n play? Maybe it’s the fact we have the heat up SO FREAKING HIGH we have nightmares just to make sure she is warm and toasty?

She sleeps great though. Our first night we put her down at 730 and she slept until 7:45am! Unheard of! Yesterday she had a 1:30min morning nap and 1 hour afternoon nap and she went down with no crying at all. Many times at home she will cry for 2 or 3 min before she goes down. Then, at night we put her down at 7:45 (no crying) and she cried once at 2:45 and 5am and then squawked at 645 and then at 7 (I think she was up for the past 15 min) until I got her. She woke up SO HAPPY to. Many times she is not a happy camper when she wakes up. But she was happy!

So strange. It’s probably the heat. I wish I could get her a room heater if they weren’t so controversial regarding bursting into flames and burning the house down. 🙂

For the past week we have also been giving her a bottle of milk a day. I briefly made an effort at diluting the whole milk with formual but that didn’t last long. She doesn’t seem to care about the taste she simply likes her milk warm and toasty and prefers to lounge back in your arms while drinking it.

So I have given up on the sippy cups with milk. Instead of drinking milk with her dinners she wants to drink it in your arms while she is very comfy. I guess it doesn’t matter so much. Now that we have that down, I could potentially keep weaning. I’m only nursing three times a day and I have somehow kicked her off of the habit of dozing off and nursing… somehow. I found out that I don’t need to take that medicine anymore so I could keep nursing. I do want to. It’s just so easier and nicer and very pleasant.

I really don’t relish getting up in the morning and going downstairs for a bottle. Although, I have given up on the ‘warming’ with the hot water that seems to take a half hour to get it to the temperature she prefers. I’ve decided that since whole milk doesn’t have those special ‘nutrients’ and the fact that she is getting most of her nutrients from actual food that it is ok to microwave the whole milk. I do 7 seconds per ounce and then warm some water and put the bottle into the water to make sure there are no hot spots for 5 min. Five minutes works MUCH MUCH better than thirty minutes. So that is much better.

So I might go another few weeks and see how my milk holds out. Nursing only three times a day is not that great for my supply so I’m not sure how long I can last. I’ve never had supply problems before (honestly, I’m not sure how I would figure out if I was going low.. I suppose if she starts crying that she is not getting enough from me….) so hopefully they won’t start now.

Ah well.

Big Bear continues to be beautiful. Perfect weather. We went to get groceries the other night and Summit Mnt was lit up so beautifully… I need to go skiing! I haven’t been in… 10 years? Yikes.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday weekend! Maybe I’ll talk to you next year! (Saying that always makes me giggle, I’m such a nerd!)
